Types of Skin

Back to the Basics
Cleansing helps remove dirt, impurities and dead cells from the surface and lower layers of skin. Just as cleanliness is the beginning of keeping your house beautiful, cleansing is a must for keeping your skin beautiful, clear and luminous. It is also a well-documented fact that cleansing is just as important as any other part of a skincare routine. Overlooking cleansing can cause impurities to start building up on the surface and in the lower layer of skin, causing skin trouble. The result is skin that is rough, dull and saggy.

Ideal Cleansing

One of the misconceptions about cleansing is that one must aim for complete removal of all impurities beneath or on the surface of the skin. Too much cleansing can actually do more harm than good by stripping away the naturally occurring hydrating layer and the stratum corneum (the top layer of the skin) that protects the skin. Ideal cleansing, therefore, should be a balancing act, removing all impurities and makeup without irritating skin or stripping essential moisturizing and protective ingredients.

Morning Cleansing
In the morning, light cleansing will suffice, simply washing away impurities released from the skin during its profuse overnight activity, along with dust from pillows and sheets. The key here is not to rob skin of the natural hydrating layer that has been renewed overnight. Although the layer is often mistaken for excess sebum, it is a rich mine of ingredients that are more beneficial than any artificially made cosmetics. So make sure this layer is not washed away entirely.

    01. Wet face_Lukewarm water that feels less than hot is the best for washing the face. Avoid using very hot water as it might melt away the sebum layer and its protective benefits. Splash lukewarm water until the face sufficiently soaked to the inner pores.
    02. Wash Hands_Using soap, wash hands to remove pollutants or sebum that might have gathered while splashing water onto the face. This step is needed because impurities and sebum can get in the way of lathering.
    03. Foam Cleansing_Take out an appropriate amount of foam cleanser onto the palm and mix it with a little bit of water. Lather generously and smooth the foam all over the face in a massaging motion. Give an extra rub on the tip of the nose, middle of the brows, mouth areas and other spots prone to blackheads and dead cell build-up.
    04. Rinse_Rinse with lukewarm water until no soap remains. For best results, rinse many times with running water. Finish with cold splashes of water to restore firmness to skin.

Night Cleansing
In evenings, skin is fatigued from daytime stress, makeup and exposure to pollutants and UV rays. The key to night cleansing is to rid the skin of pollutants that contain makeup, sebum and dirt, and restore it to tis originally clean and refreshed state.

    01. Wash Hands_It makes little sense to clean the face with dirty hands. Thoroughly wash hands before cleansing face.
    02. Removing Color Makeup_Use specialized cleansers for eye and mouth areas. There are two reasons for this. First, makeup used on these areas is usually heavier and therefore harder to remove. Second, these areas are easily irritated by even the most minor friction. Shake Lip & Eye Remover well to make sure the water and oil cleansers are thoroughly blended. Then, soak a cotton ball with a generous amount of the cleanser and apply using light pressure, leaving it on for 3-5 seconds before wiping away gently.
    03. Removing Base Makeup_Choose the right type of cleanser for your makeup and skin type.

    • Cleansing Cream : This is the most effective type of cleanser. Works best for heavier foundation makeup. It does not dry skin and is therefore suitable for drier skin. After removing all color makeup, smooth the cream on the entire face and massage gently until makeup floats and melts away into the cream. Using tissues, gently wipe away the cream.

    • Cleansing Water : Water-based cleanser is suitable for removing light powder makeup. Its fresh sensation appeals to people reluctant to use oily cream for cleansing. Soak a cotton ball with a generous amount of the cleansing water and gently wipe away in upward and outward motions.

    04. Cleansing Foam_While cleansing cream and cleansing water are effective in removing oil-based pollutants, cleansing foam is more effective in removing water-based pollutants. For night cleansing, take more care and time to cleanse than in the morning. And don't forget to finish by splashing with cold water.

Key Point
For perfect removal of makeup, first use Lip & Eye Remover to remove color makeup, and then follow with cleansing cream to remove base makeup. Dampen cotton balls with cleansing water and wipe away until all makeup residue is thoroughly removed. The result is a fresh and neat finish without the stickiness and grease of cream.
